Beatnicks and Beuys

After WWII their was a anti-war culture developing, amongst them were eye-catching writers. These writers were also known as the Beatnicks. Therefore, forming the Beatnick Generation, originating from the writers at Colombia University. The word comes from the upbeat and exuberating culture of the time. Their work inspired freedom in sexuality, drugs, and religion which went hand in hand with peoples feelings post war.

Joseph Beuys was a prominent anti-war artist from Germany. He is vital to the art world because of his revolution with abstract expressionism. Beuys solidifies his place in the art world declaring there are no rules in art and brought life to art. He was involved in the Fluxus movement which veered from traditionally and seemingly boring art everyone has been doing ever since. I think Beuys most interesting work is How to explain Pictures to dead Hare, which is bizarre but he explains how human thoughts can become alive. The imagination is a very powerful tool, especially in art.
